AI Policy

An AI policy defines the rules and expectations for how artificial intelligence may be developed, purchased, deployed, and used within an organization.

The policy may define approved and prohibited uses, requirements for human oversight, acceptable data handling, approval processes, vendor requirements, and responsibilities for employees and business teams.

For example, an organization may permit the use of generative AI for public marketing content while prohibiting employees from entering confidential customer information into unapproved AI tools.

An effective AI policy should be supported by operational controls that allow the organization to identify AI use and determine whether activity complies with the policy.
