Agentic AI

Agentic AI refers to artificial intelligence systems that can pursue goals, make decisions, and take actions with a degree of autonomy.

Unlike traditional AI systems that primarily respond to individual prompts, agentic AI may plan multiple steps, use tools, connect to other applications, retrieve information, and perform actions on behalf of a user or organization.

The level of autonomy can vary significantly. Some agents require human approval before taking important actions, while others may operate continuously with limited intervention.

Agentic AI creates new governance challenges because risk depends not only on the model being used, but also on what the agent can access, what actions it can perform, what data it processes, and how much human oversight is involved.
