Today the Irish Data Protection Commission announced it had fined Linkedin $335 million over GDPR violations. Linkedin has allegedly been using member data for behavioral analysis and targeted advertising without gaining consent beforehand, data it had collected directly from users as well as data it obtained from third-party partners.

Linkedin denied the violation in a public response, but noted it is working with the Irish DPC toward a solution. The $335 million figure stands as the 6th largest GDPR fine ever handed out, signaling the seriousness of this alleged violation and serving as a stark warning to any tech company trying to process and use consumer data without transparency and consent.
